HolinessCan a Christian Sin?The apostle who wrote that one born of God “cannot sin” also wrote, “if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father.” This teaching reads John by John: how he uses the word “commit,” what Paul adds in Romans 6 and 7, and why the call to holiness assumes both that a saint can fall and that he must not stay down.7 minutesJonathan Mahaney
The GodheadIsaiah 9:6 and the Child Who Is Mighty GodIsaiah 9:6 gives a newborn child the title El Gibbor, “Mighty God,” the same title Isaiah uses for Yahweh one chapter later, and calls him “Everlasting Father.” This essay reads the Hebrew carefully, sets the Trinitarian and Oneness readings side by side, and follows the verse into the New Testament, where God was manifest in the flesh.9 minutesJonathan Mahaney
The Godhead · Baptism · HistoryOneness Theology: A Working CompendiumA short but complete map of Oneness theology: the one God of Israel, manifested in flesh as Jesus Christ. It works through the Hebrew and Greek of the key Old and New Testament texts, the typology of the angel, the tabernacle and the priesthood, and the apostolic practice of baptism in Jesus’ name. Each contested text is set beside the strongest Trinitarian reading before it is answered.37 minutesNathan Lynch
The Godhead · HistoryTen Objections to Oneness, AnsweredThe ten objections Oneness believers hear most often, each stated first in its strongest Trinitarian form and then answered from Scripture. The final section tests the claim that the church always confessed three persons, with names and dates from Noetus and Praxeas to the councils of 325 and 381.14 minutesJonathan Mahaney
BaptismThe Name in the Water: Baptism as the Apostles Practiced ItSalvation is the gift of God, received by faith and never earned. This essay begins there, then follows the apostles into the water: what they commanded, whose name they called over the baptized, and why obeying the gospel is faith at work rather than a work of merit.9 minutesJonathan Mahaney
IslamThe Qur’an’s Prophet ProblemThe Qur’an affirms Moses, Jesus and the books God gave them, and it names the test by which a true messenger is known. Followed honestly, those two commitments lead to a trilemma with no way out that the Qur’an can accept. This essay states the argument from the Qur’an’s own verses, gives the usual Muslim reply its full weight, and answers it from the same book.8 minutesNathan Lynch
The SpiritTwo Kinds of TonguesWhen someone says tongues are “a gift for some,” they are usually reading Acts through 1 Corinthians 12. The Bible describes two different things: the sign that accompanies the baptism of the Holy Ghost, and the gift of tongues that operates in the church as the Spirit wills. This teaching keeps them apart and answers the strongest objection.6 minutesJonathan Mahaney
The GodheadYHWH in the Flesh: An Old Testament MapThe Old Testament says again and again that Yahweh himself will come, save, shepherd and shine, and that he gives his name and glory to no other. The New Testament applies those same texts to Jesus. This map sets out five groups of passages side by side and draws the conclusion they point to: Jesus is YHWH manifested in flesh.8 minutesJonathan Mahaney
